FOR GOODNESS BAKE returns on Saturday, August 5, 2017!
Catalyst Gallery 137 Main Street Beacon, NY 12508 10AM - 4PM OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: "Bring your friends, your families, and your sweet tooth to Beacon on Saturday, August 5 to take part in For Goodness Bake, the beloved annual bake-sale-for-charity that in previous years has made contributions to local luminaries such as the Kids R Kids Feeding Program and Green Teen Beacon. This year’s For Goodness Bake will be raising funds and awareness for the Beacon Rec After School Program Tuition Assistance Fund, a vital new educational presence in the community. Founded in September 2016, the Beacon After School Programs Beacon Rec After School Program currently serves an enrollment of over 175 children in three of Beacon’s four elementary schools: South Avenue, J.V. Forrestal, and Sargent Elementary. While there, students participate daily in a multitude of enriching activities, ranging from engineering to baking to martial arts, and led primarily by members of Beacon’s diverse and multi-faceted community. Operating Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 6:00pm, the program not only provides essential after-school care, but also supplements and enhances regular curriculum learning taking place during the day. Tuition assistance in the program is available for all children who qualify for free and reduced school lunch, and 100% of proceeds raised at For Goodness Bake will support the Tuition Assistance Fund in collaboration with I Am Beacon, a local non profit organization dedicated to empowering the community. Specifically, every $5 raised will provide an hour of programming for one child, offering vital assistance to working families in the Beacon community. In the spirit of what Nate Smith, Assistant Director of the Beacon Recreations Department, calls a “wonderful and delicious way for our community to come together to help our children,” some of the Hudson Valley’s most celebrated professional and amateur bakers will be donating their time, talents, and a wide array of sweet and savory baked treats, confections, and vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free items to the event, in addition to locally roasted coffee available from Tas Kafé LLC - Coffee Roaster and hand-crafted sodas from Drink More Good, with all proceeds going to charity. Now in its fifth year, the annual For Goodness Bake remains dedicated to raising funds and awareness for charitable organizations within the Hudson Valley, having previously raised nearly $11,000 for community causes ranging from those listed above to the Children's Organ Transplant Association and the Beacon Community Kitchen.
